The Crew

The Captain

Barrie, the Captain of the Alchemy, is good-looking, smart, a great sailor and the author of his own bio. He grew up in England next to the sea, and sailing was an itch he never managed to scratch, short of playing around on small sailing dinghies. A couple of years ago, he started sailing with his family on Lake Champlain in a Cal 29. With three summers’ lake sailing and a single bareboat charter, he has convinced his crew that they really do want to spend half a year cramped into a sailboat too small for them, following the trails of Caribbean Pirates.

The Helmsman

Peter, the Helmsman is the oldest of the crew at 11. Right now he is the only one of the boys that has been solo sailing in our dinghy, and frequently gets steering responsibility on Alchemy.  An avid reader, he likes Percy Jackson a lot. His favorite thing about sailing is driving the boat and least favorite is long sails when it gets boring.

The Bosun

Simon, the Bosun, is 9, and a bundle of energy. He loves climbing and swinging around, which makes him perfect for all those rigging duties. His favorite thing about sailing is snorkeling, swimming and hanging in a hammock. His least favorite is going to bed.

The Cabin Boy

Andrew is our Cabin Boy. He is almost 7. He still needs a lifejacket to swim and is working hard on not needing it. With the cutest smile you could imagine, he helps with all the random stuff that needs doing on a boat. His favorite thing about sailing is swimming and least favorite is that you are stuck in the middle of the sea.
