Now that we have purchased our Tartan 41, we have the issue of getting it home. Currently in Annapolis, we have to bring it back to Lake Champlain. I’ll be posting about that trip very soon, but this post is about emergency beacons, PLB’s and SPOT devices.
I want to get one for the trip, but which one?
Me and my Dad, Barrie, were sailing at about a knot with the spinnaker in Lake Champlain. He was in the cabin doing something and I was steering I was leaning against the ladder (we have one of those fold up ones) and I was wearing my dad’s hat.
Then it fell off into the water and dad went to get it in the dinghy. But then the motor of the dinghy stalled!
We were going to Burlington we made it half way there and then our engine broke and it started to get water in it and then we called the coast guard and they towed us in to the harbor.
So I know that my children are the light of my life and all that and I’d hate to lose them, but jeez, safety harnesses for children are really expensive! I wonder if people ever make their own. I’ll have to look into that.
