Spot vs DeLorme InReach vs ACR ResQLink
Now that we have purchased our Tartan 41, we have the issue of getting it home. Currently in Annapolis, we have to bring it back to Lake Champlain. I’ll be posting about that trip very soon, but this post is about emergency beacons, PLB’s and SPOT devices.
I want to get one for the trip, but which one?
How to Stop Rolling When Anchored
On of the most annoying things I find when anchored or moored is when the wind and swell are at ninety degrees to each other. We had this a few times in the BVI. What happens is that the wind causes your boat to lie broad on to the swell and waves and as they come in you end up rolling really badly. The boys liked it down below, with the right timing they could turn themselves into small human projectiles from one side of the 11′ salon to the other.
Not so good for drinking coffee though.
Make an Easy Duffel From Old Sails
Yesterday I posted about making an old bag out of a genoa sail that was torn up. My first attempt was a bit short and fat, so I wanted to try again. I also want to try to figure out a way to make the hole at the top more waterproof. Here is what I came up with, step by step.
Bags from Old Sails
Our old O’Day 28 came to an unfortunate end on the freeway. The Genoa was torn up a bit, but was still a massive amount of high-tech material. Surely I could make something out of it. I got some great ideas of What can I EASILY make out of an old sail on one of my favorite forums, SailNet. After a couple of hours, I am rather pathetically proud of myself for having made a duffel-type bag and a small ditty toy bag that nests inside.
