One of the biggest problems with sailing is that a lot of the time, you spend life at 20-30 degrees askew. We have a big strap in the galley to keep our cook in one place, but nothing like that to keep our laptop from sliding off the table. I have been pondering some kind of velcro or strap. My laptop tends to get damaged much easier than my cook when they hit the floor.
I managed to find a really simple solution that works amazingly well. They are called “Tree Frog Pads” and are a pad of a super sticky plastic pad that you can use to hold something in place. They work amazingly well, I have no idea what they are made of, but they hold strong and just have to be washed to regain their stickiness.
I acquired three sizes, ranging from a large for a laptop to a small one for something like an iPhone. The website claims:
“Slap it on once to any surface and it securely stays until you pick it up and move it again! The Tree Frog Pad jelly pads won’t harm the surfaces or leave sticky residue on the products you secure in place. Even better, this non slip dash mat retains its full stickiness and adhesive stick after stick. You can even wash and clean the Tree Frog Pad without losing its incredible traction.”
It’s really true! These things work very well, as a test I even stuck my iPhone on a vertical surface!
Tree Frog Pads are available from www.treefrogpad.com, the largest size is just under $13.
