St Eustatius, or Statia, is one of the best places for snorkeling we have been to. This is a guide for snorkeling in Gallows Bay.
In most guide books it talks about the ruined warehouses underwater, but there are many other interesting things that they don’t talk about.
Going right off your boat you are almost certain to see a sea turtle as they like to hang out under boats.
The next thing you should do is swim towards the shore and you will find an underwater wall. This is the most interesting snorkeling in the bay. There is coral on the rocks with lots of little fish, my Dad even saw an octopus there.
Looking up above the water, you will see a blue dive bouy. To the left of this (if you are facing the shore) is a cannon.
Statia is one of the best bits for snorkeling I have seen on this trip. And don’t forget when snorkeling on Statia to look for blue beads!
